We are so excited to announce New Life Center has partnered with Rio Salado College for Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. On Tuesday, October 19 from 3 to 4 p.m., the college will host an informational virtual panel, “Comprehensive Services for Compound Trauma: Domestic and Family Violence,” for students and staff to learn more about the effects of DV on children and about NLC’s programs and services. The event will be livestreamed and those interested in watching can register to view here.

Throughout October, the college is also hosting a donation drive for full-sized personal hygiene supplies for both men and women as well as hair care products.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to share New Life Center’s mission with the community at Rio Salado College,” said Myriah Mhoon, New Life Center CEO. “The chance to speak directly to students and staff as well as receive the donations RSC is collecting will truly help raise awareness and support for survivors in Arizona.”

“We look forward to this dialogue and the opportunity to partner with the New Life Center,” said Rio Salado President Kate Smith. “Collaboration and stewardship are at the heart of our core values. We recognize the fundamental need to support one another and come together as a community.”

The center offers four core programs to help survivors in need: residential, children, outreach and lay legal advocacy. NLC has a 104-bed emergency shelter that uses the trauma-informed care model to support families in starting independent lives, free from violence. With 70% of the shelter’s population being children, NLC has created a safe place for parents to grow, learn and positively interact with their children. Kids in the program are provided with age-appropriate group learning opportunities utilizing the active learning model and individually tailored goal plans.
